Fishing Update

By |September 29th, 2014|Categories: Reports, Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

Fishing remains slow and everyone has theories to where the fish are or even if we are going to get a decent return of fish this year.  Is it because of the flood in 2010? Low water and lack of eggs at the hatchery in 2011?? The cold winter and colder then normal lake temperatures this year??  Or 60% of last years fish at the hatchery last year were two year olds (this years fish) Or all the above. Only time will tell. As I type this there has been some fish showing up at the mouth staged in front. On the plus side there are some Steelhead in the river, if you try to target them you could be rewarded like Blake here in the picture above.

This Season Is A Wrap!

By |May 12th, 2014|Categories: Reports|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

This season is a wrap and what a great season it was. The Salmon run started out early in August and was incredible all the way thru October with some really big kings! Steelhead season started off with a bang too and continued right thru the fall. Those early fish in the DSR made for some great takes for my clients swinging flies. Winter fishing was good if you wanted to do battle with Old Man Winter - Me, I must be getting older, I can't take those really cold days anymore. With the long winter came a extended spring season and as I type this there is still plenty of fish to be caught in the river. We saw some insane numbers come to the net and anyway you wanted to catch them. To top it all off I had Great clients/Friends, so what more could a guide ask for!! Looking forward to seeing everyone this coming season! Just think Salmon Season is only 3 1/2 months away!!! Tight Lines, Paul

Swinging – It Doesn’t Get Any Better

By |May 5th, 2014|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |

Francois and Sylvain hit it right this time for their annual spring trip to the Salmon River after we had to reschedule due to the river running at 5000cfs. Swinging flies high in the water column was just what they wanted to do and they did. I will let the smiles tell the rest of the story.     Looking forward to seeing you guys next season!

My buddy and I are fly anglers; we have been coming to the Salmon River for the past five years, and we’ve had awful luck.  On year two, we booked a guide, and had a terrible experience.  We did not get the person we thought we were booking with; camped out the entire day in the upper fly zone, and hammered the same run all day.  So, we were skeptical when we decided to give a guide another try.  After doing some research, I gave Paul a call, and after getting off the phone, I was optimistic that this was going to be a much better experience.  I’m happy to say it was, and that Paul is a superb guide. We fished with Paul on November 22, 2013.  He is a friendly, relaxed, and professional fishing guide. His knowledge of fly fishing for steelhead, and of the river, is incredibly impressive.  His gear, flies, and equipment are all excellent.  He brought along some switch rods that were strung up Skagit style, showed us some spey techniques, and we played around with them for a bit, which was fun; Paul is also an expert spey fisherman.  However, what struck me most was how hard Paul works; he is absolutely determined to get you into fish.  After five years of steelhead despair, we finally got it done.  This would not have been possible without Paul, and I would not hesitate to use him again, or to recommend him to anybody making a trip up to the Salmon River. Fall Steelhead

By |November 1st, 2013|Categories: Reports|Tags: , , , , , |

The Salmon season is behind us now and the river is full of Steelhead.  We started out mid-October with low warm water and plenty of steelhead that weren't eager to bite.  Now on November 1st we have really high water and good water temps and the outside temp is 68 (not bad huh?) and a river full of eager to bite steelhead.  Once the flows settle back down we will be set up for a great fall/winter season.  My November is full and I have some December dates still open.  If your interested in a trip, please call or e-mail to discuss it.
