We had a great day on the Salmon River with some excellent steelhead action.
The morning started off cold and clear, but the fish were active and we found several good opportunities throughout the day. We spent most of the morning working the deeper pools and slower seams, swinging flies through the likely holding water.
The Spey rod was the ticket, with a few solid grabs coming on the swing. After working through several runs, we finally connected with a strong steelhead that put the rod to work and made several hard runs before coming to the net.
It was a great fish and a great way to spend the day on the river.
Conditions can change quickly this time of year, so adjusting your presentation, sink tip, and fly selection is important. Taking the time to read the water and cover each run thoroughly can make all the difference.
