Salmon River Fishing Report – October 1, 2026
The Salmon River is starting to see some good pushes of fresh king salmon, with fish moving through the lower river and continuing upstream. The last few days have seen steady movement, and there are good numbers of salmon throughout the system.
At 216 CFS, the river is currently on the low side, so anglers should expect fish to be concentrated in the deeper holes and areas that provide some current relief. Fresh fish will continue to move through the system as conditions change.
The weather looks interesting heading into the weekend. Cooler temperatures are expected, along with a chance of rain. A strong northwest wind is also forecast for Friday. Cooler weather and some additional water could help get another push of salmon moving into the Salmon River.
For anglers swinging flies, low water means being prepared to adjust your presentation. Lighter leaders, smaller flies and a controlled swing can be effective when salmon are holding in the slower, deeper water.
The Salmon River is in prime fall-salmon mode, and the next several days should be worth watching closely as temperatures drop and conditions change.
Paul’s Guide Service offers guided fly fishing trips on the Salmon River, including Spey and single-handed fly fishing for salmon and steelhead.
