GUIDED TROUT FISHING IN UPSTATE NEW YORK

EST. 2000 - PAUL'S GUIDE SERVICE

GUIDING BEYOND THE SALMON RIVER

When the salmon and steelhead seasons wind down, I point the truck inland and go looking for trout. Some of the best trout water in the Northeast is scattered across Upstate New York, and a lot of it flies under the radar.

WEST CANADA CREEK

Central New York

The West Canada Creek offers some of the most diverse and rewarding trout fishing in Central New York. Its cool, well-oxygenated water supports strong hatches, healthy brown trout, and the opportunity to connect with some surprisingly large fish. From technical dry fly fishing with delicate presentations, to swinging soft hackles and trout spey flies, to stripping streamers, the creek offers a variety of ways to pursue trout across much of the year. Best of all, the West Canada provides a more relaxed fishing experience than many of New York’s better-known trout waters.

WEST BRANCH AUSABLE

Adirondacks
Classic freestone water in the High Peaks near Lake Placid and Wilmington. Fast, rocky pocket water full of wild and stocked browns and rainbows. Technical wading, unbeatable scenery, and some of the most exciting dry fly water in the East.

HOOSIC RIVER

Eastern New York

Low-pressure, stealthy environments for wild fish. Success relies on concealment and careful delivery.

How We Fish

DRY FLY

Nothing beats watching a trout come up and eat off the top. When there's a hatch on, this is the game.

NYMPHING

Most of a trout's meals happen underwater. Drifting nymphs is often how we put fish in the net, especially early in the day.

STREAMERS

Swinging or stripping streamers is one of my favorite ways to fish the West Canada & Hoosic.

TROUT SPEY

If you've wanted to learn trout spey, these rivers are a great place to do it.
